Trinity exams

The Trinity exams are some of the British official exams offered by the Trinity College of London. These exams are increasingly required in the selection processes for businesses, because they guarantee the linguistic competence which is needed in real life situations.

Trinity have always stood out for their innovation and quality. Their English exams follow the guidelines established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the educational authorities of the United Kingdom (OfQual), not only to demonstrate their international level, but to assure the quality of their services.

What knowledge and skills does the English Trinity exam assess?

These exams include all aspects of communication. There are twelve levels in Trinity; each evaluates the competence of oral expression, following the requirements that each respective level demands. They cover all levels from starter up to expert and they are organised in four different levels: Initial, Elemental, Intermediate and Advanced. They are based on the international standards of linguistic knowledge.

What types of exams are there and what are they divided into?

There are two types of TCL exams recognised by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) that certify your English level on an international scale. They are:

GESE (Graded examinations in spoken English): The student will be examined in sessions of 15 minutes each, covering all the skills established by the chosen level. The test is composed of oral comprehension (listening) and a conversation with the examiner (speaking).

ISE (Integrated skills in English): The student will be examined in four fundamental sections: writing, reading and oral expression, the latter formed by oral comprehension (listening) and speaking. The tests will be carried out throughout the day, and they demand a more advanced preparation than the one which is needed for the GESE exam, although both tests have the same validity for the certification of the language.

A third modality which Trinity offer are the certificates for the workforce sector, called SEW (Spoken English for work), these tests include all types of situations related to the workforce sector. The SEW tests consist of the following four levels (B1, B2, B2+, C1).
